Clarity Tools (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Clarity Tools website and AI writing platform (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. Please read this policy carefully. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide directly
- Account information: Your email address when you sign up or sign in via magic link authentication.
- Tool inputs: Text and content you enter into our AI writing tools (e.g., topic descriptions, drafts, company names). This content is transmitted to our AI provider to generate outputs.
- Saved outputs: Content you choose to save to your dashboard, including titles and generated text.
- Payment information: If you upgrade to a paid plan, payment is processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full payment card details on our servers.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, tools used, timestamps, credit usage, and feature interactions.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URLs, and device identifiers.
- Cookies and local storage: We use session cookies and browser local storage to maintain your authenticated session and remember preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
1.3 Information we do not collect
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information such as government IDs, financial account numbers, health data, or biometric data.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account;
- Process your tool inputs by transmitting them to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate outputs;
- Track and enforce usage credits and plan limits;
- Store and display your saved outputs on your dashboard;
- Send transactional emails (magic link sign-in, account notices) — we do not send marketing emails without your explicit opt-in;
- Monitor and improve the performance, security, and functionality of the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service;
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your tool inputs to train AI models (inputs are passed to OpenAI under their API terms, not used for training by default under their current API policy).
3. Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with the following third-party processors only to the extent necessary to operate the Service:
- Supabase (database & authentication): Stores your account data, saved outputs, and credit records. Data is hosted on servers in the United States. Supabase Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI (AI generation): Your tool inputs are transmitted to OpenAI’s API to generate text outputs. OpenAI processes this data under their API Privacy Policy. Under OpenAI’s API data usage policies, data submitted via the API is not used to train their models by default.
- Vercel (hosting & infrastructure): Our Service is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server-side log data. Vercel Privacy Policy.
- Payment processors: If applicable, payment processing is handled by our payment provider (e.g., LemonSqueezy or Stripe). We receive only a transaction confirmation and plan status; we do not receive or store full card details.
We require all third-party processors to maintain appropriate security measures and to use your data only for the purposes we specify.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data and saved outputs for as long as your account is active. If you close your account or request deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes (e.g., financial records).
Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics (containing no personal identifiers) may be retained indefinitely for product analytics.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / Restriction: Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
- Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, please email us at privacy@claritytools.co. We will respond within 30 days. We may require verification of your identity before fulfilling any request.
7. International Transfers
Our Service is operated from, and your data is primarily stored in, the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in a country that may not offer the same level of data protection as your home country. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verified parental consent, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have such information, please contact us at privacy@claritytools.co.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending an email notification. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
